Canyon Wind Cellars
A worldwide search over several years for a vineyard site led us to conclude that our long-adopted, much-loved Colorado held the ideal microclimate, with warm, sunny days, cool nights and low humidity. Canyon Wind's vineyard is perfectly situated on alluvial soil above the Colorado River, surrounded by towering sandstone cliffs. But what most distinguishes our own bit of "terroir" is the mountain breeze that flows daily through the canyon mouth to wash over and cool our vineyards. So special, in fact, that we named the winery after it.
Our first grapes were planted in 1991, and our first wine, a 1996 Chardonnay, was released in December, 1997. Production is currently just over 4,000 cases annually, equally divided among the three varieties we produce (Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon). We are gradually increasing our production toward a goal of 8-10,000 cases.
Canyon Wind Cellars is totally committed to excellence. Whether in its vineyards or in the winery its only goal is to produce exceptional wines. Our winemaker, Napa's Bob Pepi, sets the tone for everything we do here: no compromise on fruit quality, barrels, or equipment, nor on cleanliness or procedures. We firmly believe these principals will continue to position us as Colorado's leading premium wine producer, and the equal of top names from California. Taste what world-class wine making does for the wonderful grapes of western Colorado.
